A Day at Glamourcon

For anyone interested in beautiful women, centerfolds and pinup girls, Glamourcon is the place to be.

Held throughout the year at various locations around the country, Glamourcon gives fans an opportunity to meet their fantasy women and heroines, buy and sell glamour memorabilia like erotic and pinup photography and art, vintage Playboy magazines and other collectibles.

Want to have your picture taken with Playboy’s newest Playmate or Miss December 1968 Cynthia Myers? Then Glamourcon is just the ticket.

I decided to take in the Los Angeles Glamourcon at the Wyndham Hotel on Feb. 12-13. While I attended the Playboy Expo last June, I didn’t exactly know what to expect at Glamourcon. But as soon as I entered the exhibition room, it was clear what was going on: lots of people having a great time.

Glamourcon: A great place
to meet and greet.

As a model, it’s always interesting to see how other girls market themselves and, at Glamourcon, the marketing ran the gamut. Some girls sat at plain tables and offered their 8 x 10s for sale. Others had elaborate backdrops and displays. However, all were there for the same purpose: to meet and greet their fans and hopefully generate a little income by selling their wares.

Those wares ranged from the typical 8 x 10s and posters to action figures made in the model’s image. Many of the girls also were selling videos, and almost all charged fans a fee for the privilege of being photographed with them.

Also on sale were thousands upon thousands of vintage girlie magazines ranging from the very early 1940s to several years of Playboy. Anything and everything related to beautiful women was covered, whether through art, artistic photography, calendars, web sites, or whatever.

I met an interesting foursome of drag queens who were promoting their magazine called Girl Talk. The guys looked pretty convincing, and they were very friendly. I debated whether or not to have my picture taken with them, but I’m told that a true journalist covers all the angles – and this was certainly a very unusual and controversial angle! Two of the “girls” had adopted supermodel-like names: Christy Girlington and Linda Evangelipstick!

1999 Playboy Playmate of the Year Heather Kozar was, without doubt, the showstopper. Fans waited in long lines for an opportunity to say hi, have their pictures taken with her, and buy an autographed photo. Heather, who is very sweet and down to earth, never disappoints. She treats each person with respect and flashes her lovely smile as she poses for photos.

Pop Culture Collecting Publisher Bill Miller and I visited with Heather inside the Playboy booth while she took a break from “table duty.” Heather comes from a small Midwestern town, and the Hollywood big-time hasn’t adversely affected her. When we asked her about her future plans, Heather told us she’d like to get into television and possibly do some films. But for now, she said, she’s very happy working with and representing Playboy. And what a great job she does!

Oh, by the way, if any of you guys have any ideas about Heather, she’s taken! Her lucky hometown boyfriend is still her main squeeze. Good for you, Heather!

Probably my biggest joy at Glamourcon was getting to know Playboy’s beautiful and sweet Miss December 1968, Cynthia Myers. All of us models can look at Cynthia and see what we should strive for! Her beauty radiates both physically and from her soul. She looks as great today as any Playmate from any period.

Cynthia was there to meet fans and promote her new web site, www.cynthiamyers.com. She says the web has opened new avenues for her to communicate with her fans and has big plans for the site.

Also known for her role in the 1970 Russ Meyer film Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Cynthia has a huge following of fans of this cult classic. The lady is a class act all the way, and you can be sure you haven’t seen the last of her. We got a sneak preview of some new glamour shots she’s just completed, and all I can say is look out, all you 20-year-olds – Cynthia is major competition! Be sure to visit www.cynthiamyers.com.

It’s interesting to watch the scores of males roaming the room, many with their tongues hanging out and still others bumping into other attendees as they ogle the scantily clad babes in every corner!

One of the show’s biggest attractions was the darling Dahm Triplets, straight from Minnesota! These cute girls were Playboy’s first triplet nudes, and the men at the show just couldn’t get enough of them. Just when they’d sit down at their table to sign an autograph, a line would form. And then it was up from the table to pose with some guy from Podunk, Iowa who wanted to take his Polaroid back home and say, “You won’t believe this!”

The Dahm triplets – Erica, Jaclyn and Nicole – are working on their web site and hope to make a big splash with it. I’m sure they will. They’re very nice girls, and they deserve all the success that comes their way. For now, you’ll find them at www.dahmgirls.com.

Glamourcon presents a great opportunity for beautiful women to gain exposure and expand their markets. The void I noticed was the absence of Internet models, which I think would be a big draw for the show. Perhaps at the next Glamourcon many of the girls making a big impact on the Internet will be there.

If you’d like to know more about Glamourcon and find out when the show is coming to a town near you, log on to their website at www.glamourcon.com.

Until next time, keep collecting!
